Easy Earthworm Science Projects For Small Kids

Written by

Article by Magriet du Plessis

Did you know that earthworm are some of the most important and useful animals? They are very important to human life and here is an experiment to see how they survive and why it is useful to us. Please handle the earthworms with care and make sure you do not harm them at all!

Here are the supplies you will need for your earthworm science project:

* A large and wide-mouthed, clear glass jar* Gravel and small pebbles* Soil* A tin can* About 6 earthworms from your garden or anywhere you can find them* Dark construction paper* Sticky tape* A camera

Now this is what you have to do:

1. First of all, the camera is to take photos of your experiment, every step of the way as you go.2. Place the tin in the middle of the jar3. On the bottom of the jar place a layer of gravel and pebbles of about half an inch4. The layer of gravel and pebbles needs to be between the can and the glass of the jar5. Now you fill the jar with garden soil up to the height of the tin can and place the earthworms on top of this layer of soil6. Take the dark construction paper and wrap it around the jar to make sure you keep out all light.7. Secure the construction paper with the sticky tape to keep it in place8. Now you have to check the soil every now and again to see what happens9. Remember to replace the dark construction paper every time and of course you have to take a photo every time for your display10. The idea is to observe the behavior of the earthworms for a while and once you are done, you have to place them back safely in the garden, they are very precious11. Make very sure you do not harm them in any way

Now, why did you do this experiment or project and what did you see?

The earthworms feed on the soil by taking it through their bodies. In this way the worms form tunnels that aerate the soil. This aerated soil provides the plants with the oxygen they need to grow.

This is why they are such an important part of the animal world. Without the earthworms many plant species will not be able to survive and we will not have enough food.

The conclusion of our easy earthworm science project is that earthworms aerate the soil and is vital to plant life.

Plants do not only need air to grow, sow what else do they need? Have a look at the Starting The Growing Process Science Fair Project Go to: http://science-projects.knacktrack.com/science-fair-project-starting-the-growing-process/

Science Projects in Elementary School

Written by

Science Projects. Elementary School teachers almost always require students to do at least one science project before they finish the fifth grade. Elementary science projects are easy to find, but finding the right project for your child can be a challenge. Here are five hints to help you find the best project for your grade school child.

1. Find out what type of project your science teacher requires. There are many types of projects, and most elementary schools give a range of choices. Does your teacher want an experiment, a demonstration, a collection, a report, or a model? Knowing what kind of project you need will narrow down your choices considerably.

2. Make a list of things that interest your child. What subjects catch your child’s eye on television or in books – space, animals, buildings, computers, explosions? Does your child need instant gratification? Consider a chemistry experiment with dramatic results, such as “Which Fruit has the Most Vitamin C?” Is your child concerned about the environment? Find out which toilet tissue is most biodegradable, or which type of insulation works best.

3. Set your budget for money – and time. If you don’t have a lot of money to invest, and if your time is limited, there is no need to look at anything that requires special metals to be imported from the Far East. Decide on how much cash you’re willing to spend, and create a generous time line for getting supplies. Keep in mind that you have to actually do the project after the supplies arrive.

4. Keep in mind that this is a science project for elementary school. Don’t choose a project with complicated instructions.

You want your child to do the project with your help – and not the other way around.

5. Provide four or five science project choices. Ever notice how it takes longer to decide on an ice cream flavor when there are 31 flavors? Give your elementary school child a limited list of science project choices, and you’ll both be happier.

Now, get a free guide to science projects– including how to find experiments with step by step instructions – at http://elementary-science-projects.com Easy and fast, they’ll help you submit an outstanding – and maybe winning – science project for elementary school.
