Easy Earthworm Science Projects For Small Kids

Written by

Article by Magriet du Plessis

Did you know that earthworm are some of the most important and useful animals? They are very important to human life and here is an experiment to see how they survive and why it is useful to us. Please handle the earthworms with care and make sure you do not harm them at all!

Here are the supplies you will need for your earthworm science project:

* A large and wide-mouthed, clear glass jar* Gravel and small pebbles* Soil* A tin can* About 6 earthworms from your garden or anywhere you can find them* Dark construction paper* Sticky tape* A camera

Now this is what you have to do:

1. First of all, the camera is to take photos of your experiment, every step of the way as you go.2. Place the tin in the middle of the jar3. On the bottom of the jar place a layer of gravel and pebbles of about half an inch4. The layer of gravel and pebbles needs to be between the can and the glass of the jar5. Now you fill the jar with garden soil up to the height of the tin can and place the earthworms on top of this layer of soil6. Take the dark construction paper and wrap it around the jar to make sure you keep out all light.7. Secure the construction paper with the sticky tape to keep it in place8. Now you have to check the soil every now and again to see what happens9. Remember to replace the dark construction paper every time and of course you have to take a photo every time for your display10. The idea is to observe the behavior of the earthworms for a while and once you are done, you have to place them back safely in the garden, they are very precious11. Make very sure you do not harm them in any way

Now, why did you do this experiment or project and what did you see?

The earthworms feed on the soil by taking it through their bodies. In this way the worms form tunnels that aerate the soil. This aerated soil provides the plants with the oxygen they need to grow.

This is why they are such an important part of the animal world. Without the earthworms many plant species will not be able to survive and we will not have enough food.

The conclusion of our easy earthworm science project is that earthworms aerate the soil and is vital to plant life.

Creating The Ideal Science Lab For Kids

Written by

Article by David T Smith

Group work is usually a part of every child’s education and it is especially common when it comes to science lab. Some kids love science since it provides them with the opportunity to answer questions while others are intimidated by the tasks they have to take on. One of the best ways to make it a pleasant experience is to provide seating that allows several children to work together with comfortable seats and a sturdy central surface where they can perform their experiments!

Rather than seat students separately, grouping them will help them learn to work together no matter what the project is. Even young students do experiments and learn about the earth and the different elements it contains and they will get more from it when they compare and contrast with their classmates!

Another reason for using this type of grouped seating in a science lab or class is that it will allow you to set up stations. Stations are normally used for science since they give students the opportunity to learn the differences in different groups of elements by looking at slides or photos or to see the results of a variety of experiments.

For young children, textures and states of matter are important in their science lessons. For instance, the dinosaurs are often one of the first things that are studied in school. Using stations to separate those that existed during the different periods will help them learn what lived during the same period of time and what else existed with them! This is a great way to provide them with hands on learning experiences that so many children need in order to understand and retain information.

It is also important to give children a surface that is appropriate to the level of activities that they will be performing. If they are young enough to be limited to using soda and vinegar to make a volcano erupt, then a plastic top will be enough for them to use and easily clean up. For older students, a marble or rock surface will resist nearly any type of chemical or abrasive that might be used on it. Also, if this type of surface gets a chip, it won’t keep going until the entire surface is destroyed but will stay confined to one area.

Many of the pieces of furniture that are sold as science furniture are no more than a flat surface and four legs at an extreme price. If you are going to invest in furniture that is designed for use in a science class, then at least get those that offer storage space underneath. This will help keep the supplies that are assigned to each group where they belong and not mixed up with every other group’s. For those ages that only need plastic tables, you don’t have to go to the expense of purchasing science furniture, just regular plastic furniture that is sturdy enough to support several kids leaning against it.

Accessories or necessity? Either way childrens table and chairs are a good investment for your child. Kids just love have their very own kids table and chairs.
